About AMHF
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
Founded on March 7, 2022, the Australia & Mary Hubbard Foundation was established on a simple but powerful belief: that the right resources, at the right time, can transform a life.

We are dedicated to two pillars of impact — education and stability. For students striving toward higher education, we provide the support and resources needed to pursue their academic goals and unlock their full potential. For individuals and families navigating economic instability, we offer practical tools and compassionate resources to promote well-being and a pathway toward stability.

At the Australia & Mary Hubbard Foundation, we don't just invest in people — we invest in possibilities.

The Man Behind the Name: Australia Hubbard

April 13, 1926 – February 2, 2016

Some lives are so full of purpose that they continue to inspire long after the person is gone. Australia Hubbard was one of those lives.

Born on April 13, 1926, in Hooks, Texas, Australia came of age during a time when opportunity for Black men in the South was hard-won and never guaranteed. Yet from the very beginning, he refused to be defined by limitation. He answered his country's call and served honorably in the U.S. Army, carrying with him the discipline and resilience that would shape everything he did thereafter.

Driven by a hunger for knowledge, Australia went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from Prairie View A&M University — a testament to his belief that education was not a privilege, but a pathway. He then poured that belief back into his community, standing at the front of classrooms in Roxton, Powderly, and Beckville, Texas, shaping young minds at a time when representation in the classroom mattered deeply.

His career in public service continued when, in May 1966, he was appointed to the U.S. Soil Conservation Service, where he served with distinction until his retirement in November 1990. For nearly 25 years, he worked to protect the land and support the farmers and communities who depended on it — quiet, steady, meaningful work that reflected his character.

But Australia's impact stretched far beyond any title or office. He served as Past President of the East Texas State Fair for two terms, lent his voice to the Board of Adjustments for the City of Tyler and the Smith County Appraisal Board, and remained an active member of the East Texas Farm and Ranch Club. In his church home at Greater St. Mary Baptist Church, he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board, Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher — a man of deep faith who believed in building up people from the inside out.
He was, in every sense of the word, a pillar.

When Australia Hubbard passed on February 2, 2016, he left behind his beloved wife Mary Elizabeth, six children, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren — a living legacy spread across generations.

Why His Name Lives On
The Australia & Mary Hubbard Foundation was founded in honor of Australia and his wife Mary Elizabeth — two people whose lives embodied the very values this foundation stands on: service, education, faith, and community.

Australia knew firsthand what it meant to push through barriers to earn an education. He knew what it meant to serve others without seeking recognition. He knew that when you invest in people — truly invest in them — the return is generational.

That is why we do what we do.

Every scholarship awarded, every resource provided to someone facing homelessness, every life we touch carries the spirit of a man from Hooks, Texas, who believed that showing up for your community was not optional — it was a calling.

We carry that calling forward.
